THE CURTAIN JOURNAL / PRACTICAL INSPIRATION
Measure the curtain, not just the window
A practical starting point for track width, drop and allowances.

Record the window opening first, then the proposed rod or track. These are different measurements: the curtain usually serves a hanging system that extends beyond the opening.
Measure the drop from the actual hanging point to your intended finished edge. Check more than one position where the floor or sill may not be level.
Note panel count, fullness and usable fabric width. Pattern repeats and hems affect the number and length of fabric drops.
Use our size guide for a preliminary estimate and send the assumptions with your enquiry. A professional should verify measurements before manufacturing.
